Hello

WHY SCOUTING

Most of us want the same things for our children: leadership opportunities, fun outdoor activities, exposure to new skills and hobbies, and development as good citizens.

The mission of the BSA is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 970 offers a program that helps our Scouts, both Boys and Girls living in Doha- Qatar, to achieve these goals.

The troop does this using the methods of scouting. The Scouts in Troop 970 have planned an exciting year for their Scouts.

We work hard to provide the boys with opportunities to earn awards, advance in rank, and lead their peers.

Hello

WHO WE ARE

BSA Scout Troop 970 is a scout-led, adult guided organization. This helps the scouts develop valuable skills that will serve them well as they grow up. The scouts plan a year-round program that helps foster new interests and building character.

We are chartered by the American School of Doha, in Qatar, where most troop meetings and non-camping events are held. We are part of the Horizon District which is part of the Transatlantic Council which is part of the BSA.

Like most busy parents, you are probably wondering two things: How much will it cost, and what is

expected of me?

JOINING REQUIREMENT

All boys and girls aged 11-17 of all nationalities/ citizenship are eligible to join Troop 970.

COST

The Troop charges 700QR in dues which covers registration fees, a Troop 970 class B t-shirt, troop neckerchief and slide, Scout Handbook, awards, equipment, and program materials.

There is also a “grub” fee each month to purchase food for the campouts. Occasionally additional fees may be charged for activities the scouts decide to do.

which can be purchased from www.scoutshop.org , a neckerchief, slide, and troop t-shirt.

Troop ordering will be shared.

WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM ME?

Many hands make light work! We want your help making this a great year of scouting. We do

understand that your time is valuable and there are numerous things competing for your attention. There are many opportunities for parents to help without making a weekly

commitment (teach a skill, drive to a campout, camp or hike with the Scouts).

MEETING LOCATION

Troop Meetings:

Sundays, 7:00-8:30pm,

ASD High School Cafeteria

WHAT IF I WANT TO DO MORE?

Please join us! For us to make the scouting program a reality there is a need for adults who can commit more than just a few days a year. The troop always benefits from parents taking on leadership roles. We rely on Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Committee Members to teach, coach and mentor the Scouts. These key adults also have to help organize some of the events the Scouts want to do as well as make sure that the Scouts are safe and do not take unnecessary risks. Adults can apply by clicking the Apply Now! button and clicking on the Adult Volunteers button.
